Cleveland Clinic Appoints Linda McHugh Chief Human Resource Officer

Cleveland Clinic has appointed Linda McHugh – who began her Cleveland Clinic career 35 years ago as a medical technologist in microbiology – as the health system’s new Chief Human Resource Officer, effective today.

Most recently, McHugh served as Executive Administrator for Cleveland Clinic and the Office of the CEO. She was named acting CHRO Feb. 1.

“Having begun her career at Cleveland Clinic as a medical technologist in microbiology, Linda has walked in the shoes of our frontline caregivers,” said Toby Cosgrove, M.D., Cleveland Clinic president and CEO. “Since then, Linda has held administrative positions of increasing responsibility. She brings thoughtful leadership, a passion for professional development, and broad-based knowledge of management, finances and administration to this very important position.”

Dr. Cosgrove added, “It’s inspiring to appoint one of our own, who has worked hard to achieve this much-deserved new role.”

As Executive Administrator, McHugh developed and implemented several innovative programs across the enterprise, including: the Art & Medicine Program, the Office for a Healthy Environment and a centralized call center. As assistant secretary for the Board of Trustees and Directors, she served on over 20 institution-wide committees.

Prior to her position with the CEO office, McHugh helped to manage and nationally expand the cardiac surgery affiliate program model, which broadened the reputation and clinical expertise of the Heart & Vascular Institute, developing the nationally recognized program into a new business venture.

As part of Cleveland Clinic’s strategy team, McHugh advanced key initiatives and programs that have resulted in operational efficiencies across the health system. During this time, she pursued and obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from The Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.

In addition to her MBA, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Bowling Green State University. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1977 and is a member of St. Rita parish in Solon.

McHugh also serves on the Board of Directors for the Cleveland Council on World Affairs and Notre Dame Schools, where she chairs the strategic planning committee.
