Dr. Jerry has been involved with the Task Force since its formation – having been involved in the planning and implementation of the 2013 Heroin Summit that attracted over 700 people to the Intercontinental Hotel and served as the starting point for the work of the Task Force. He has since served as the chairman of the Treatment Subcommittee of the Task Force.

“It is great to see the members of the Heroin and Opioid Task Force be recognized for all of the hard work that has been devoted to this effort. We still have a long way to go but the work that has been done thus far is important and is being replicated in other cities across the country. We understand that the model of our task force is being called ‘The Cleveland Model’,” Dr. Jerry said.

The task force will receive the U.S. Attorney General’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Community Partnerships for Public Safety. This award recognizes outstanding achievement in the development and support of community partnerships designed to address public safety within a community. The award recognizes the significant contributions of citizens and organizations that have assisted the department in the accomplishment of these programs.

The U.S. Attorney’s Heroin and Opioid Task Force was established in 2013 by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio to address the region’s expanding epidemic. The group brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including law enforcement, the medical community, people in recovery, treatment professionals, judges, public health professionals, educators and others. It focuses on solutions from four perspectives: law enforcement; education and prevention; healthcare policy; and treatment.

Members of the task force include Cleveland Clinic, the ADAMHS Board, the Cleveland Division of Police, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department, the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, the DEA, the FBI, MetroHealth Medical Center, the Ohio Attorney General, the Ohio State Medical Board, Orca House, the Ohio State Pharmacy Board, University Hospitals, WKYC Channel 3 and others.

The Attorney General’s Award Ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. at DAR Constitution Hall, 1776 D Street, NW, Washington, DC, 20006.
