Luye Medical Collaborates with Cleveland Clinic to Pioneer Value-Based Healthcare in China

First Cleveland Clinic Connected hospital member to reinforce China’s health science and technology innovation and facilitate medical service upgrade, ultimately contributing to achieve “Healthy China 2030” vision

SHANGHAI – Luye Medical Group and internationally renowned Cleveland Clinic have formed a strategic collaboration to bring value-based and patient-centered healthcare to Shanghai New Hong Qiao International Medical Center.

Value-based care is a concept of improving quality and outcomes for patients, based in the ways a patient receives medical care and focused on three key elements including overall wellness, quality of care, and preventive screenings.

Luye Medical is the inaugural member of the Cleveland Clinic Connected international program, which allows for patients around the world to connect with Cleveland Clinic’s best practices and leading-edge technology, with the goal of improving patient care delivery in the U.S. and around the world. Hospitals in the Cleveland Clinic Connected program can access best practices and protocols created by Cleveland Clinic experts and used at Cleveland Clinic locations worldwide.

In addition, patients in Shanghai will be able to access detailed health education materials prepared by experts at Cleveland Clinic on conditions and various treatment options. The hospital, which is owned and operated by Luye Medical Group, can also help patients connect with Cleveland Clinic specialists without the time and expense of travel to obtain second opinions through distance health technologies.

Cleveland Clinic’s patient-first culture, best clinical practices, advisory services and focus on quality and patient safety will add to the “best-of-the-best” of local health care practices in Shanghai. It marks a significant milestone for Luye Medical and Cleveland Clinic to fulfill their long-term commitment in China, focusing on key specialty areas and meeting ever-growing needs for disease treatment and healthcare in the Shanghai community.

Based on “Healthy China 2030,” the Shanghai government released the “Healthy Shanghai 2030” blueprint, which has underpinned the role of innovation in the development of the health industry. Under this blueprint, Shanghai will establish a cluster of clinical specialty groups to become one of the medical centers in Asia by 2020 and a Science Technology Innovation Center with global influence by 2030.

In support of the goals of “Healthy China” and “Healthy Shanghai 2030,” the collaboration between Luye Medical and Cleveland Clinic will introduce clinical specialties, such as cardiology, urology, and oncology.

“With strong government support, Shanghai New Hong Qiao International Medical Center is positioned to be the pilot zone for national and Shanghai medical reform. The collaboration between Luye Medical and Cleveland Clinic is expected to pave the way in developing a premium innovation healthcare hub and a high-end medical service platform based in Shanghai that can extend to the Yangtze River Delta, and service the whole country,” said Jie Yang, Chairman of Shanghai New Hong Qiao International Medical Center Construction Development Co. Ltd.

“We are honored to work with the Luye Medical Group to bring the first Cleveland Clinic Connected hospital to the city of Shanghai,” said Tom Mihaljevic, M.D., CEO and President of Cleveland Clinic. “Disease and illness know no boundaries or borders, through innovative approaches and teamwork we can work together to impact lives in the healthiest way possible. Collaboration, like the one we are announcing today, aligns with our mission to improve the lives of as many patients as possible in order to advance the ‘Healthy China 2030’ goal.”

“The collaboration with Cleveland Clinic, one of the world-leading healthcare organizations, marks one of the key milestones for Luye Medical, which is also a strong testament to our commitment to China. With our shared vision, we will strive for delivering world-class healthcare innovation and expertise to have a profound impact on the well-being of local community,” said Liu Dianbo, Chairman of the Board and President of Luye Life Sciences Group. “As the collaboration advances, we look forward to working closely with public hospitals and universities to drive innovation with ‘hospital of the future’ collaboration centers and deliver international-level clinical outcomes and value to patients locally and nationally.”

According to U.S. News & World Report’s “2017-2018 Best Hospitals,” Cleveland Clinic is No. 1 in cardiology and heart surgery for the 23rd consecutive year and also No. 1 in the U.S. in urology; No.2 in Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Nephrology, and Rheumatology. U.S. News also lists the Clinic’s Diabetes & Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Gynecology, Orthopedics, and Pulmonology among the top five in the U.S.
