Cleveland Clinic offers scholarships to increase representation of students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in medicine. Students who are awarded a scholarship may participate in a four-week clinical rotation to learn firsthand what it is like to be a resident at Cleveland Clinic and to learn about our values.

During the four-week clinical rotation, the students spend time with the teams that care for patients on either outpatient or inpatient clinical services. Each student is paired with an advisor/mentor who provides career guidance.

Nearly two dozen GME residency programs and a pharmacy residency program are available for clinical rotations. Students can rank up to three clinical specialties for their rotation.

Ten students are chosen annually to receive a scholarship. In addition, each of the students receives a $2,000 stipend and free on-campus housing.

Any qualified medical student may apply, and applications are strongly encouraged from groups that have been historically underrepresented in medicine, such as people who are members of racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQI-identified or gender-nonconforming people, those from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with disabilities.

Please share this opportunity broadly with students, faculty and community leaders. Details about this scholarship opportunity, including eligibility, are available by visiting the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine Elective Program website.

The scholarships are funded by Cleveland Clinic through a Caregiver Catalyst grant as well as through the Cleveland Clinic Education Institute in collaboration with the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and Graduate Medical Education. Together we are committed to developing future clinical, academic and educational leaders, and to further enhancing the diversity of our trainees and graduates.
