VeloSano announced that its fourth ride this past July raised more than $4.17 million to support cancer research at Cleveland Clinic. More than 3,200 individuals participated as riders, virtual riders and volunteers from 28 states and the District of Columbia, as well as Germany and Italy, to raise funds for cancer research. Nearly 26,000 donations were received from more than 22,000 donors from all 50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and 36 countries around the world.

“VeloSano brings doctors, patients, families and the community together with a common goal of beating cancer,” said Brian J. Bolwell, M.D., FACP, chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Institute. “Funds raised through VeloSano further cancer research and bring sophisticated options to our patients. In its first three years, VeloSano has funded 68 cancer research projects at Cleveland Clinic with immeasurable patient impact.”

The 2017 total was announced Nov. 9 at the VeloSano Bash: Revealing the Cash celebratory event, presented by The Lerner Foundation, at Windows on the River with emcee, Tom Hamilton, the “Voice of the Cleveland Indians.” The $4.17 million will be allocated via the VeloSano Pilot and Impact Awards at Cleveland Clinic, and those projects will begin on March 1, 2018.

VeloSano has gained significant momentum in raising money for cancer research at Cleveland Clinic due to the support of its partners, including but not limited to, the Donna and Stewart Kohl Fund, the Cleveland Indians, Adcom, Jones Day, Lexus, Zack Bruell Events, cleveland.com, DiGeronimo Companies, House of LaRose, Jack Cleveland Casino, KeyBank, Panera Bread and UN1TUS. Every dollar raised directly benefits cancer research at Cleveland Clinic. Funds will be allocated across the enterprise to support the research areas of cancer genomics, immunotherapy and clinical trials.

In addition to thanking the event partners for making VeloSano possible, several event participants were recognized during the Bash, including the top-20 fundraising riders, virtual riders and teams.

VeloSano 5 weekend is scheduled for July 20-22, 2018, and will once again be chaired by Paul Dolan, Chairman and CEO of the Cleveland Indians, and John Saada, Partner at Jones Day. Registration for VeloSano 5 opens Monday, Dec. 4, and includes a special offer: anyone who registers before Jan. 1 to ride 25 miles or more will receive a $25 discount on their registration fee.
