Welcome Class of 2028!

welcome image in different languages

Please help us welcome the newest 32 students to the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.

Our students completed their orientation alongside the CWRU University Program students. On the first day of orientation, our students enjoyed a welcome breakfast with the deans. The rest of the day involved getting acclimated to the environment and one another. Over the next few days, the students attended presentations ranging from diversity, equity and inclusion, to oath writing. They ended orientation week by taking part in the White Coat Ceremony.

We’re excited to welcome an incredible group of students to the Lerner College. Here are some fun facts about them:

  • Undergraduate majors: While most of the newest students majored in biology, several in this class majored in biomedical engineering.
  • Teaching: We have students with a passion for education. One student created and taught a large and successful course at the University of California, Berkeley, focused on the gene editing tool CRISPR. Another helped start a United Nations non-governmental organization focused on educating others about the Holocaust and Holocaust survivors.
  • Serving others: Naturally our students have a deep interest in healthcare. One worked as an EMT for more than a year, and another earned the 2023 Minnesota Hospice Volunteer Service Award for her violin work with hospice patients.
  • Physical activity: Members of the Class of 2028 have taken part in physical endurance activities. One was a ballerina for most of her youth and choreographed and performed in musical productions at her high school. Another has been a synchronized swimmer since she was 9 years old and competed for the U.S. national team and Stanford’s D1 varsity synchronized swimming team. Another student has a black belt in Taekwondo, and another ran the 2023 Paris Marathon.
  • Travel: Some of our students have found excitement in traveling. One student spent nearly six weeks backpacking around five European countries before starting at CCLCM, and another has traveled to many countries with for leisure with her family, making a point to attend soccer games wherever they go.
  • Innovation: Thinking outside the box is a hallmark of CCLCM students. One of our newest students led a design team focused on developing a novel bicycle helmet for traditional Black female hairstyles.

Please join us in giving the Class of 2028 a warm welcome!
