Cleveland Clinic to Celebrate the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with Free Community Events in January

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lived a life of sacrifice and service to others.

This January, Cleveland Clinic will celebrate Dr. King’s legacy with free community events focused on a theme inspired by his quote: “Of all forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman.”

Six-Time Olympic Champion Allyson Felix to Deliver Keynote Address at Cleveland Clinic’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration on Jan. 12

Cleveland Clinic will hold its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024. The virtual program will start at 8:00 a.m. EST, and last approximately 45 minutes.

The community event was established at Cleveland Clinic in January of 1992 to honor the life of the beloved American hero and social justice activist.

Tom Mihaljevic, M.D., CEO and President of Cleveland Clinic and the holder of the Morton L. Mandel CEO Chair, will emcee the event.

Allyson Felix, the most decorated track and field athlete of all time, will serve as keynote speaker. During her illustrious 20-year career, Felix won 31 global medals at the Olympics and World Athletic Championships. The six-time Olympic champion has also become an outspoken advocate of maternal health after her own pregnancy complications led to an emergency C-section.

The program will also feature a musical performance from the contemporary jazz band The Michael Austin Project, and special remarks from Oluwatosin “Tosin” Goje, M.D., medical director of the Center for Infant and Maternal Health at Cleveland Clinic.

Cleveland Clinic to Host Women’s Health Challenge on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 15

Cleveland Clinic Langston Hughes Community Health & Education Center will host its third annual Women’s Health Fair on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday, Jan. 15, 2024). The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 6:00 p.m.

The Women’s Health Fair will focus on addressing the unique health needs of African Americans in Cleveland’s Fairfax neighborhood and other areas of high need. During the event, attendees will enjoy health screenings, cooking demos, interactive breakout sessions, yoga and more.

The event is presented in collaboration with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.; and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
