Cleveland Clinic is the No. 1 smart hospital in the world and one of the world’s top hospitals for specialized care, including the best in the world for urology, according to Newsweek.

In its World's Best Smart Hospitals rankings, Newsweek recognizes hospitals “that stand out for their use of electronic functionalities, telemedicine, digital imaging, artificial intelligence, and robotics.”

“Technological advances are key to inventing tomorrow’s care,” said Tom Mihaljevic, M.D., CEO and President of Cleveland Clinic and the holder of the Morton L. Mandel CEO Chair. “Quantum computing and artificial intelligence, for example, are helping us to harness crucial information to accelerate the pace of medical research, support caregivers, address organizational challenges and, of course, advance patient care. Through advanced technology, we will continue to reach more patients in need, with a higher level of safety, quality and patient experience.”

Last year, the first quantum computer in the world to be uniquely dedicated to healthcare research – the IBM Quantum System One – was installed at Cleveland Clinic. In addition to quantum, Cleveland Clinic is applying advanced technology to other areas, including patient care (i.e., timelier and more precise imaging for mammography and epilepsy care); caregiver support (i.e., pilot projects to assist physicians with notetaking); and organizational operations (i.e., more efficient management of bed availability and nurse staffing).

As a member of multiple AI-focused coalitions, Cleveland Clinic is committed to providing guidance for the responsible use of AI in healthcare.

Cleveland Clinic is a founding member of the AI Alliance, an international community of researchers, developers, and organizational leaders launched by IBM and Meta to develop safe, responsible AI. It is also part of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s AI Safety Institute Consortium and the Coalition of Healthcare AI.

On Newsweek’s World’s Best Specialized Hospitals list, Cleveland Clinic was ranked as the No. 1 hospital in the world for urologic care, which includes diagnosing and treating urinary tract diseases, male fertility, kidney and pancreas transplants, male and female pelvic reconstruction, kidney stones, and urologic cancer, among other conditions.

“We are incredibly honored to be recognized by Newsweek as one of the World's Top Hospitals for Specialized Care in Urology,” said Howard Goldman, M.D., urologist and interim chair of the Glickman Urologic Institute at Cleveland Clinic. “This accolade is a testament to our continuous dedication to providing exceptional patient care, and our unwavering commitment to advancing the field of urology through innovative research and clinical excellence. Our entire team works hard every day to ensure that our patients receive the most comprehensive and compassionate care possible.”

Cleveland Clinic ranked in all 12 specialties, with eight specialties ranking among the Top 5 in the world and 10 ranking among the Top 10 in the world. In addition to urology, the specialties include cardiac surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynecology, pulmonology, endocrinology, neurosurgery, neurology, orthopedics, oncology and pediatrics.
