November 14, 2025 – Vero Beach, Fla., The A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation has invested $5.5 million to enhance emergency services, behavioral health, and mother/baby care at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital.
Emergency Department – $5 Million The largest portion of the investment, $5 million, will boost funding for a comprehensive renovation and expansion of the Emergency Department to address increasing patient volumes since its last renovation in the early 2000s.
Key updates include:
Behavioral Health Center – $250,000 The Behavioral Health Center will receive $250,000. The 46-bed center provides psychiatric care for patients of all ages, and demand has steadily grown, with admissions increasing by 35% between 2017 and 2022. This increase has been driven by the growing acuity of mental health and substance use disorders as well as the closure of other regional facilities.
Planned improvements include:
Labor & Delivery Unit – $250,000 The Clark Foundation’s investment also includes $250,000 to support ongoing renovations to the Labor & Delivery unit, aimed at improving maternity care facilities and creating a family-centered environment.

In addition to the Clark Foundation’s $5 million investment, Indian River’s philanthropic community also contributed $15 million toward the renovation of the hospital’s Emergency Department renovation and $7 million toward the renovation of the Labor and Delivery unit.
