Local leaders mark the start of construction with a ceremonial sledgehammer moment at the future Community Resource Center site.

Cleveland Clinic is reinforcing its commitment to addressing food insecurity with a $25 million pledge to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. The funding includes $5 million to support the opening of a new Community Resource Center (CRC) on Cleveland’s West Side, in addition to the Food Bank’s CRC on South Waterloo Road.

This recent allocation is part of Cleveland Clinic’s $50 million investment to support local organizations fighting food insecurity.

“At Cleveland Clinic, we take our responsibility to serve our community to heart, and we are intentional about investing in efforts that create lasting, meaningful change,” said Vickie Johnson, Chief Community Officer, Cleveland Clinic. “No child should go hungry, and no family should have to wonder where their next meal will come from. We are proud to stand alongside our community partners, working together to ensure more families have reliable access to the food and support they need.”

Located at 9830 Lorain Ave., the new facility will be the Greater Cleveland Food Bank’s second CRC. It will feature the Cleveland Clinic Healthy Choice Food Market, benefits assistance and connections to essential services including housing, employment, healthcare and education.

"Food insecurity rarely exists in isolation," said Kristin Warzocha, President and CEO of the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. "Families struggling to put food on the table are often facing challenges with housing, healthcare, employment, transportation or other basic needs. This new Community Resource Center will help us meet neighbors where they are and connect them with the resources they need not only to get through today, but to build a more stable future."

Over the past year, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank served more than 404,000 individuals across Northeast Ohio and distributed more than 53 million meals through its network of more than 1,000 partner agencies and programs. Cleveland Clinic’s support will help meet growing demand by expanding this critical work to reach more people in need. Cleveland Clinic’s pledge will also expand food distribution programs, with the majority of the dollars used to purchase and distribute nutritious food for free to the Food Bank’s network of 1,000 partner programs, and address childhood hunger.

This investment builds on Cleveland Clinic’s broader work to combat food insecurity through clinical programs and community partnerships. These efforts include teaching kitchens, pediatric meal programs, food vouchers, grocery delivery services, access to fresh produce from local farms and Nourish food pantries for eligible patients.

Together, these efforts reflect Cleveland Clinic’s broader $50 million commitment over five years to help reduce hunger and expand access to nutritious food across Ohio, Florida and Nevada. Through sustained support for local food banks and community-based organizations, the investment is helping strengthen the systems that ensure families have reliable access to food while enabling partners to plan, grow and serve their communities with greater stability.
