Cleveland Clinic Welcomes New Division Chair of General Surgery

Cleveland Clinic has appointed board-certified surgeon Enrique F. Elli, M.D., FACS to lead the Florida Market

Enrique F. Elli, M.D., FACS, has been appointed the Division Chair of General Surgery for the Cleveland Clinic Florida Market.

In this role, Dr. Elli will work alongside the Digestive Disease Institute team to enhance surgical services, improve patient outcomes, expand access to advanced surgical care, and strengthen provider collaboration and engagement.

Dr. Elli is a board-certified general surgeon whose expertise focuses on bariatric, foregut, robotic surgery and adrenal gland pathology. This includes complex revisional surgery for the upper GI tract, as well as gastric and esophageal cancers. He has held many leadership positions, including director of Bariatric Surgery and chair of the Division of Advanced Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery at Mayo Clinic, where he also served as professor of Surgery and program director of the General Surgery Residency program. He is also a Fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and The American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Elli earned his medical degree from Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He completed residences in general surgery at the University of Buenos Aires and the University of Illinois in Chicago. He then completed fellowships in minimally invasive and advanced laparoscopic surgery and laparoscopic bariatric surgery at the University of Illinois.

Cleveland Clinic’s Digestive Disease Institute is nationally recognized for excellence in patient care and recently became the first medical center in Florida to earn accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer through the American College of Surgeons.
