Cleveland Clinic’s Stanley Shalom Zielony Institute for Nursing Excellence has been named a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education by the Washington, D.C., based National League for Nursing (NLN).
“Education is such a large part of the foundation for nursing practice and we strive to be innovative with the programs we offer,” said Kelly Hancock, DNP, RN, NE-BC, Executive Chief Nursing Officer at Cleveland Clinic.
The NLN Center of Excellence in Nursing Education designation is designed for schools of nursing and healthcare organizations that have achieved a level of excellence in a specific area.
The Zielony Institute received the designation for demonstrating sustained, evidence-based and substantive innovation in the category of “Creating Workplace Environments that Promote the Academic Progression of Nurses.” The designation, which extends through 2021, also acknowledges Cleveland Clinic’s ongoing research to document the effectiveness of its innovations, for setting high standards and showing commitment to promote academic progression throughout the organization.
“We value education, innovation and research, and encourage all our nurses to practice at the top of their license,” Hancock said. “Receiving this designation validates all our efforts and we are so proud and humbled.”
The NLN began awarding Center of Excellence designations to nursing schools in 2004 and the first designations for healthcare organizations were awarded in 2012. Cleveland Clinic is one of two health systems to receive this designation in 2017, and is now among five healthcare organizations that have the Center of Excellence designation to date.
The NLN, a membership organization for nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education, has 33,000 individual and 1,200 institutional members, including nurse educators, education agencies, healthcare agencies, and interested members of the public.
The Zielony Institute and the other Center of Excellence institutions will formally receive their awards at the group’s national Education Summit, Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, in San Diego.
