Cleveland Clinic Innovations 2024 Year in Review: Transforming Healthcare's Future

Cleveland Clinic Innovations (CCI) demonstrated exceptional performance in 2024, securing 144 patents, generating $27 million in licensing revenue, and investing $29 million in companies. The organization's achievements spanned technology development, international expansion, and capital raises, solidifying its position as a transformative force in healthcare innovation.

Cleveland Clinic Innovations (CCI) marked a transformative year in 2024, achieving significant milestones in healthcare innovation and commercialization. Key achievements included securing 144 issued patents, generating $27 million in licensing revenue through more than 50 new deals, and investing $29 million in companies. The organization's portfolio expanded with five new companies, while two existing portfolio companies successfully exited. Additionally, CCI’s portfolio companies raised an impressive $149 million in capital funding rounds during the year.

CCI's technology portfolio remained diverse, with medical devices comprising 50% of active technologies, followed by digital health and healthcare delivery solutions (27%), and therapeutics and diagnostics (23%). The organization maintained over 1,300 active technologies in development.

Internal to Cleveland Clinic, CCI reported 263 new Invention Disclosure Forms (IDFs) submitted, marking a 25% increase in submissions from 2023, a testament to the strength of CCI’s Engagement team and their ability to work with caregivers to identify and submit their ideas to help solve the most pressing unmet needs in healthcare.

The year also saw significant international expansion, with Cleveland Clinic London fully joining the Innovations ecosystem. Notable initiatives included an AI Roundtable in London and the establishment of a Global Venture Philanthropy Fund to accelerate commercialization of medical technologies.

These achievements in 2024 earned Cleveland Clinic recognition from both Fierce Healthcare and Fortune, with the latter ranking Cleveland Clinic among its Top 200 Companies for innovation commitment.
