MEDINA: Cleveland Clinic has named Thomas J. Rogers, M.D., FAAFP, as the new Vice President and Chief Medical Officer (VP/CMO) at Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital effective July 1. This is the top leadership role at the hospital.

Dr. Rogers has been the VP/CMO at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital since 2022, following his retirement from active military service as a colonel in the U.S. Army.

“Dr. Rogers has been an innovative and collaborative leader at Union Hospital, committed to providing the best care for our patients and growing the healthcare services that we provide in that area,” said Teri Lash-Ritter, M.D., president of Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Cleveland Clinic’s South submarket, which includes Medina and Union hospitals. “We are confident he will bring this same energy to this new role as well.”

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Rogers served as director of the DiLorenzo Pentagon Health Clinic and the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital Branch Clinics in Washington, D.C., from 2017-2022. A board-certified family physician, he was commissioned as a captain in the Medical Corps in 1993, entering the Army through the Health Professions Scholarship Program and Army ROTC.

Dr. Rogers served an extensive medical career in national and international posts in the Army, earning numerous achievements and recognition.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from John Carroll University in Cleveland, where he was a Distinguished Military Graduate, and earned a medical degree from Wright State University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Family Medicine at DeWitt Army Community Hospital, Fort Belvoir, Va., from 1993-96. His additional military education includes the U.S. Army Medical Department Officer’s Basic and Advanced Courses and the Command and General Staff College.

Dr. Rogers spent much of his childhood in Stark County and is a graduate of Canton Central Catholic High School.

He replaces Richard Shewbridge, M.D., who will step down after eight years leading the hospital on June 30 to return part-time to his endocrinology practice at Medina Hospital.

An internal search is being conducted for the VP/CMO position at Union Hospital.
