Cleveland Clinic is bringing a Teaching Kitchen to the Langston Hughes Community Health & Education Center by the end of 2026. The space will expand access to hands‑on food education and nutrition resources for patients, families and the surrounding communities.

A state-of-the-art space inside the Langston Hughes Center at 2390 E. 79th St. is taking shape, transforming a former multipurpose room into a teaching kitchen designed to prevent diet‑related illnesses and support long-term health.

“Healthy food access and education are top priorities for us,” said Jacqueline Bailey, Senior Director of Community Health at Cleveland Clinic. “Many of the chronic health issues we treat are preventable, and we want to empower families with the skills and nutrition knowledge needed to build lifelong healthy habits.”

The new 4,835-square-foot Teaching Kitchen will feature:

  • 16 residential-style cooking stations
  • A central demonstration area with broadcast and recording technology
  • A pantry supporting nutrition and shopping education for qualifying participants facing food insecurity

The demonstration area will allow classes to be recorded, livestreamed and shared digitally, extending access beyond the building.

The teaching kitchen will host multi-week class series, group medical appointments, wellness programs and collaborations with community organizations. Qualifying participants will also have access to the Langston Hughes Community Health & Education Center’s food pantry.

This new effort builds on learnings from the successful demonstration kitchen at Cleveland Clinic’s Stephanie Tubbs Jones Health Center, which has provided hands-on nutrition education and community wellness since 2011. The new Langston Hughes Teaching Kitchen will extend the reach of this work while the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Teaching Kitchen continues to operate and serve patients.
