Today, Cleveland Clinic brought together global leaders in healthcare, academia and industry at its London Innovation Summit to explore the transformative forces shaping the future of surgical care.

The second annual event was held at the Intercontinental London Park Lane, near Cleveland Clinic London.

The international summit highlighted key drivers of surgical innovation, including advanced robotics, intelligent operating rooms, perioperative transformation, neuromodulation, bioelectronic and regenerative therapies, commercialization and investment. The day focused on integrating technology, data and multidisciplinary collaboration to transform surgical care.

A broad array of experts in clinical care, hospital management, academia, science, industry and investment contributed to dynamic panel discussions that highlighted opportunities to accelerate the translation of innovation into clinical impact.

“Surgical innovation is advancing at an extraordinary pace,” said D. Geoffrey Vince, Ph.D., Chief, Cleveland Clinic Innovations. “From AI-enabled decision support and robotics to bioelectronic and regenerative therapies, innovation is creating new possibilities across the continuum of care. The London Innovation Summit brings together international leaders from across disciplines to discuss how we can accelerate progress and shape the future of surgical care for patients around the globe.”

Panel discussions examined topics such as AI, intelligent operating rooms, and connected care platforms, as well as emerging trends in surgical technology. Highlighted sessions included:

  • Intelligent Surgery: AI, Imaging, Robotics and the Connected Operating Room: Panel explored how data, imaging, AI and digital platforms are reshaping procedural care. Experts in endoscopy, surgery, imaging and digital operating room innovation discussed how these technologies can enhance clinical decision-making, procedural precision, efficiency and patient outcomes. The conversation also examined the next generation of intelligent surgical environments.
  • The Future of Surgery: Robotics, Intelligent Systems, and Long-Term Innovation Vision: Robotics, AI and intelligent systems are rapidly transforming surgery. This session brought together leaders across the field to examine the technologies, partnerships and long-term vision that will help drive better outcomes and shape the next era of surgical care.
  • Future of Surgery Is Function, Not Structure: Bioelectronics, Neuromodulation and Regenerative Medicine: Session explored how bioelectronics, neuromodulation, regenerative medicine and precision therapeutics are reshaping the future of intervention. Leaders in bioelectronic medicine, implantable devices, neural therapies and regenerative medicine discussed how these advances are restoring function, transforming chronic disease care and redefining the role of surgery.

“Today's summit convened an exceptional community of innovators whose expertise and influence are advancing surgical care,” said Beri Ridgeway, MD, Cleveland Clinic London President. “Our mission is to place patients at the heart of everything we do, across care, research and education. This annual event reflects that mission in an international setting, providing a forum to foster meaningful dialogue and accelerating progress for the benefit of patients worldwide.”

As part of a global research enterprise, Cleveland Clinic London has made clinical research an integral component of daily operations, achieving several firsts in the UK private healthcare sector. Currently, 46 investigator-sponsored and commercial studies, including NHS portfolio multicentre studies, are open across all major specialties, with over 2,000 patients recruited to clinical trials to date. Additionally, Cleveland Clinic London caregivers, many of whom are senior academics at top UK universities, authored more than 1,000 peer-reviewed papers per year.

Building on Cleveland Clinic’s partnership with IBM and the Science and Technology Facilities Council, Cleveland Clinic London is advancing AI-driven research to improve patient outcomes. In a pilot study, a research team is examining how common hospital procedures impact overall health and quality of life. Researchers are using clinical and advanced imaging data provided by Cleveland Clinic London BioResource, a repository which provides patients with the opportunity to consent to enhanced longitudinal data collection and analysis. Researchers aim to develop sophisticated AI models for multi-disease analysis, ultimately enhancing understanding and care for patients.

The London Innovation Summit was supported by sponsorships from Medtronic, Johnson & Johnson, Deerfield, JobsOhio, Intuitive, Jones Day, GE Healthcare, Lexion Medical, XGEN Venture and Khosla Ventures.
