Congratulations to Robert Cain, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine; Dane Shafer Klink, DO; and Samina Yunus, MD, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, on being awarded the 2021 Henry Walton Prize for their article entitled “Telemedicine implementation in family medicine: Undergraduate clerkship during COVID-19 pandemic.”
In the article, which was published in Medical Education in 2020, the co-authors describe a pilot program in which a group of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine students worked with clinical faculty to conduct virtual patient visits during the COVID-19 pandemic, when their face-to-face clinical activities were cancelled. The virtual visits gave these students a meaningful alternative to patient contact during the pandemic.
The students who participated in the pilot project were CWRU University Program 2021 graduates Saee Bhide, MD; Saarang Deshpande, MD; Lucas Lin, MD; and Trenton Rivera, MD; and Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine student Emily Durbak (’22).
The Henry Walton Prize is given annually for the most downloaded paper published in the journal’s “Really Good Stuff” section during the prior year, recognizing the important contributions to both medical education literature and practice.
