COVID-19 cases are rising throughout the country. Cleveland Clinic Florida hospitals on the Treasure Coast – Indian River, Martin North and Tradition hospitals – are now caring for more patients with COVID-19 than any other time during this pandemic.

Cleveland Clinic Florida leaders held a press conference on Friday, August 20, to offer a transparent account of what is happening in the region. Themes included:

  • Surge in cases – Indian River, Martin North and Tradition hospitals are seeing more than twice as many patients admitted with the virus compared to previous surges.
  • Encouraging vaccination – Nearly 90% of patients admitted to Indian River, Martin North and Tradition with COVID-19 are unvaccinated. We have a way to alleviate this suffering, and that is through vaccination. We encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated.
  • Effects on capacity, patient care – We have postponed nonemergent procedures at our Florida hospitals, and reduced outpatient visits at Indian River by half. Restricting these other services in order to care for COVID-19 patients means we risk not being able to care for patients when they need us.
