Welcome Class of 2027!

We are delighted to welcome the newest 32 students into the ranks of the Lerner College of Medicine. Our students completed their orientation alongside the CWRU University Program students. The first day of orientation consisted of registration and getting acclimated. From being greeted by all the deans at a welcome breakfast to reviewing the student handbook, the students were kept quite busy on their first day. Over the next few days they attended presentations ranging from diversity, equity and inclusion to oath writing, and they ended their orientation by taking part in the White Coat Ceremony.

We’re excited to welcome such an impressive group of students to the Lerner College. Here are some facts about them:

  • All of our new students have worked on notable research including 73 scientific publications, 113 oral presentations on scientific research and 97 grants and scholarships.
  • These students found time in their busy schedules to volunteer and serve our community. Whether it be tutoring, mentoring, teaching or coaching, our students found a way to meaningfully and positively contribute to others.
  • Members of the Class of 2027 have also taken part in numerous life-enriching experiences, particularly around nature and the outdoors, including swimming with sharks, snorkeling, jumping off waterfalls, hiking and sailing.
  • We have students with a passion for physical wellness. One student ran in the Chicago Rock n’ Roll half marathon while another placed first in their age group for a triathlon, and many enjoy dancing.
  • Music seems to have found its way into the hearts of our students. We have students who have performed in the NIH Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Case/University Circle Symphony Orchestra.
  • Some of our students have found joy in traveling. One student has driven across the United States three times, while another has visited 49 of the 50 states (North Dakota remains elusive).
  • This new class of students has adopted an elephant named Ziwadi from Maasai Mara Oloisukuk Conservancy in Kenya. Ziwadi is a 4-year-old elephant who suffers from epilepsy. Ziwadi’s fun fact is that she likes to dunk her whole head into the water when she drinks.

Please join us in giving the Class of 2027 a warm welcome!
