From the Dean’s Desk | We Welcome the Class of 2028

J. Harry "Bud" Isaacson, MD

Please join us in welcoming our 32 newest students to the CCLCM and Cleveland Clinic families. Their journey, which began when they set foot inside the Health Education Campus, encompasses more than simply the pursuit of medical knowledge. By the time they walk across the Severance Hall stage to receive their diploma, they will have undergone a transformative experience, one that shapes them into advocates for their patients and communities; collaborative team members who put the needs of the patient first; and skilled physician investigators with a passion for scientific inquiry.

I also want to extend my deepest gratitude to the CCLCM staff and faculty who invest significant time and energy to orienting the new class of students. Planning and executing orientation week is no small feat, and each year the week’s activities flow seamlessly.

Orientation week culminates in the time-honored tradition of the White Coat Ceremony. Read the Oath of Professionalism that the students collectively wrote and view photos from the ceremony.

For me, the excitement of welcoming a new class of students rekindles memories of my first days of medical school. I believe the same is true for many of our faculty members, who are deeply committed to the success of our students, not only as educators, but also as advisors, helping to guide our students throughout their five years of medical school. In fact, 86 of our faculty members were recently recognized as outstanding clerkship preceptors. This recognition is based on criteria that include frequency and quality of feedback given to the students and students’ evaluation of the faculty.

The next time you see one of our faculty members, please thank them for their commitment to our medical students and our mission, which is to educate a diverse group of individuals to become physician investigators who advance biomedical research, deliver exceptional clinical care and promote health equity.

Every August, as we welcome our new class of students, I’m reminded of the enduring cycle of learning and growth as well as the profound impact that each new generation of doctors brings to the world.
