Cleveland Clinic Innovations team members from Ventures, Engagement, and Business Development & Licensing attend this year's HLTH conference in Las Vegas.
Cleveland Clinic had a strong presence at this year’s HLTH 2023 in Las Vegas on Oct. 8-11. Called “the ecosystem event for the entire healthcare industry”, HLTH 2023 united a community of leaders, innovators and pioneers within the industry to discuss the trends and strategies needed to create health’s future.
At the event, Cleveland Clinic Innovations met with Cleveland Clinic Employer Solutions at the booth they hosted during HLTH. While at the conference, the two departments were able to meet, collaborate and together proudly represented the diverse values of Cleveland Clinic.
The Clinic by Cleveland Clinic, a joint venture between Cleveland Clinic and AmWell, also had a presence on the exhibit floor. This gave Innovations caregivers the opportunity to connect with team members they had previously only known virtually, allowing them to discuss the history of the relationship and the bright future ahead.
JD Friedland, General Manager, Cleveland Clinic Ventures, participated in the “Put Your Money Where the Impact Is” panel. The discussion touched on how impact investing offers an opportunity to refocus on the fundamentals when funding new health technologies and digital health solutions, and the importance to understand the potential impact these innovations can have on society.
During the “Making Aging Easier Pitch Competition” Todd Schwarzinger, Partner, Cleveland Clinic Ventures, Medical Devices, joined fellow judges on scoring startup companies who pitched on how their tech solution makes aging easier. The winner, Starling Medical, was announced following the pitch competition and check presented to Hannah McKenney, CEO & Co-founder.
The Business Development & Licensing team participated in many engaging discussions with industry leaders to identify commercialization paths for helping life-improving technologies reach patients. They also attended an insightful dinner with a small group of like-minded industry movers and shakers who are passionate about advancing patient care through commercialization of such technologies. The hot topic of the HLTH was “direct discovery”, and with more than 10,000 attendees at this year’s conference, the team found it to be a very valuable experience.
HLTH 2023 encompassed a wide range of thematic topics salient to the healthcare industry today, from intelligent healthcare to staff shortage crises in the rising tide of machine learning and generative AI. The conference offered a great platform to hear diverse perspectives from payors, providers, technology startups, and venture capital investors representing clinical demands, regulatory voices, and capital market support in a highly regulated industry.
