GE HealthCare and Cleveland Clinic Innovations Portfolio Company, MediView, Deploy Augmented Reality Headset for Image-guided Procedures

Developed through an ongoing collaboration with the augmented reality (AR) software developer MediView, the OmnifyXR system includes a wearable heads-up display capable of showing up to four different information feeds at once.

GE HealthCare has announced the deployment of its first augmented reality system. This technology can project 3D holographic anatomical images during live, image-guided procedures, offering unprecedented detail and precision for healthcare professionals. The device marks a revolutionary leap forward in medical technology, offering a remarkable level of detail and precision that could transform how healthcare professionals conduct image-guided procedures.

GE HealthCare, in collaboration with augmented reality (AR) software developer and Cleveland Clinic Innovations portfolio company, MediView, has launched the OmnifyXR system. The augmented reality system is designed for use in live, image-guided procedures. The wearable and interactive device can simultaneously display four different information feeds at once. These may include real-time X-ray fluoroscopy, ultrasound imaging, and blood flow data. North Star Vascular and Interventional in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was the first to install the platform, using it in two procedures to close off problematic arteries. Jafar Golzarian, the founder of North Star, who performed the first operations using the new system, hailed it as a 'game-changer,' offering new perspectives for treatment.
