Concussions continue to be a concern for football players and athletes who compete in contact sports. While progress has been made on diagnosing, treating and preventing concussions, more research is needed to fully understand them. To assess concussions more accurately, researchers are looking for biomarkers that can indicate if a patient has a concussion. Currently, rest and gradual return to normal activities are the only way to treat a concussion. Richard Figler, M.D., co-medical director of Cleveland Clinic’s Concussion Center, shares his insight.
