WOOSTER, Ohio: Cleveland Clinic’s Wooster Milltown Specialty and Surgery Center has been named one of America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers 2023 by Newsweek magazine for the third year in a row.

“We are honored by this ongoing recognition of our center,” said Brenda Welch, Ph.D., RN, NE-BC, Cleveland Clinic Regional Operations Director. “Our entire team of incredible physicians, nurses and supporting caregivers is committed to working together to deliver individualized care to each patient before, during and after their procedures. Because of that commitment, we consistently receive high patient satisfaction scores.”

The rankings identify the nation’s top ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) based on quality of care, performance data and peer recommendations, relative to in-state peers. The Wooster ASC, located at 721 East Milltown Rd., Wooster, also achieved this designation in 2021 and 2022.

This award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., an industry ranking provider. The awards list that was announced today is the third time these rankings have been compiled and released.

More than 5,000 ASCs were analyzed, and 510 were ultimately selected for inclusion in the final analysis. Those centers exclusively provide surgical services to patients not requiring hospitalization and in which the expected duration of services would not exceed 24 hours following an admission.

The list was calculated based on two data sources:

  • Online survey by state: In August and September of 2022, thousands of medical professionals (doctors/surgeons, registered nurses, nursing assistants and therapists) working in the management/administration in ASCs were invited to take an online survey. Participants were asked to recommend at least three and up to 10 notable ASCs in their state but were not allowed to recommend their own employer.
  • Performance data: Data from the Ambulatory Surgical Center Quality Reporting (ASCQR) Program by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services were used as well.

The Wooster ASC provides a convenient location for necessary and elective surgeries, such as endoscopies and colonoscopies; orthopedic procedures, such as treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome and cyst removal; bone marrow biopsies, and procedures on the foot.
