Four Cleveland Clinic hospitals – Akron General, Fairview, Hillcrest and main campus – were recognized among the top maternity hospitals in the latest edition of Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2023.

“We are honored that Newsweek has recognized our hospitals for maternity care,” said Edward Chien, M.D., chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Ob/Gyn Department. “This recognition reflects the expertise of our caregivers, who are dedicated to providing high-quality maternity care and an excellent birthing experience for our patients.”

The rankings are based on three data sources:

  • Recommendations from more than 10,000 medical experts – hospital managers and maternity healthcare professionals with knowledge about maternity processes – who were invited to participate in an online survey.
  • Key hospital performance indicators relevant to maternity care, including cesarean birth, exclusive breast-milk feeding, perinatal care and unexpected newborn complications.
  • Patient satisfaction data, including general satisfaction with hospital and its medical staff’s responsiveness and communication.

Each year, Cleveland Clinic providers in Ohio are involved in more than 10,000 births. In addition, Cleveland Clinic hospitals – Akron General, Fairview, Hillcrest and Martin Health – were rated high performing in U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-23 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.
