PALM BEACH, Fla.: Cleveland Clinic, ranked No. 1 in heart care for 30 years and known around the world as a leading academic health system, has announced its goal for a fundraising campaign that will expand its exceptional care for the residents of Palm Beach County.

Cleveland Clinic also named the location for a new hospital that will be funded by the campaign. Both announcements were made Saturday night during its Palm Beach Ball, an annual fundraising event that supports medical services and programs in South Florida and beyond.

“Cleveland Clinic has served the healthcare needs of Palm Beach County residents for many years and is committed to an expansion plan that will transform care for the community,” said Tom Mihaljevic, M.D., CEO and President of Cleveland Clinic and the holder of the Morton L. Mandel CEO Chair. “The community’s visionary leaders challenged us to respond to the region’s growing healthcare needs. With the support of the community, we will enhance care through a broad range of specialties and greater access.”

For more than 15 years, Cleveland Clinic has cared for patients at the outpatient center at City Place in West Palm Beach. To meet the evolving needs of the community, Cleveland Clinic plans to build a new hospital and expand outpatient services at a new location.

These projects will be supported by a fundraising campaign that is off to a strong start, already reaching $100 million toward a goal of $500 million to begin construction of the hospital.

"This expansion is special because it is a partnership with the community, which has provided Cleveland Clinic with generous philanthropic support for a very long time,” said Conor Delaney, M.D., Ph.D., President, Cleveland Clinic Florida Market. “The fundraising campaign will enable us to bring to West Palm Beach the full scale of services that residents have been asking us to offer. The plan is ideal because the hospital and outpatient center will be close together — just a couple hundred yards apart — allowing caregivers and patients to easily go from one location to the other."

Plans for the new hospital include approximately 150 inpatient beds, an emergency department, a medical office building and an ambulatory surgery center. The hospital will be located on newly acquired land next to Clear Lake in West Palm Beach.

In addition, Cleveland Clinic will lease space at 15 CityPlace for a new 120,000-square-foot outpatient location that will nearly quadruple the square footage of the existing Cleveland Clinic Health Center. Additional services will include chemotherapy and infusion therapy, a concierge medicine program, imaging, endoscopy and outpatient surgery.

Cleveland Clinic has had a presence in South Florida for more than 30 years, providing high-quality care with a focus on safety and patient experience. Cleveland Clinic Weston is ranked as the No. 1 hospital in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale Metro Area. In 2007, Cleveland Clinic was the first out-of-state provider to open a West Palm Beach medical office, and subsequently opened clinics in Palm Beach Gardens and Wellington.

Cleveland Clinic integrates clinical care with research and education to serve the needs of our patients now and in the future. Cleveland Clinic's transformation of care in Palm Beach County will connect care in South Florida from Weston Hospital up the coast to Martin, Tradition, and Indian River hospitals north of Palm Beach.
