CLEVELAND, Ohio, and ZAGREB, Croatia: Cleveland Clinic has welcomed Radiochirurgia Zagreb as the first European member of Cleveland Clinic Connected, following a rigorous review of the hospital’s safety, quality and patient experience standards.
Radiochirurgia Zagreb has become Croatia’s leading specialty hospital for early cancer diagnosis and treatment, using some of the most advanced technologies in the fight against cancer. For the past seven years, Radiochirurgia Zagreb has treated over 10,000 patients and analyzed over 90,000 cases, specializing in lung, liver, and prostate cancers, solidifying its position as a leader in oncology care not just in Croatia but in a wider region of southern and eastern Europe.
Cleveland Clinic created Cleveland Clinic Connected to respond to increased global demand for quality healthcare. The collaborative program enables hospitals and healthcare organizations to connect with Cleveland Clinic’s clinical and operational experts to enhance patient care, quality and safety. Through program membership, healthcare facilities benefit from clinical and operational support and best practices developed during Cleveland Clinic’s 104-year history.
"We are delighted to have formalized our affiliation with Radiochirurgia Zagreb, whose dedication to excellence reflects Cleveland Clinic’s mission to deliver the highest quality care and touch as many lives as possible,” said Tom Mihaljevic, M.D., Cleveland Clinic CEO and President and holder of the Morton L. Mandel CEO Chair. “Bringing Cleveland Clinic’s best practices across borders is something truly special. It allows our team to share world-class expertise and make a meaningful difference in people's lives."
As a Cleveland Clinic Connected member, Radiochirurgia Zagreb clinicians will be able to access educational opportunities either at Cleveland Clinic or through distance learning, as well as best practices and protocols that are used at Cleveland Clinic locations worldwide. Radiochirurgia Zagreb physicians will also be able to request educational consultations of complex cases. In addition, Radiochirurgia staff can access Cleveland Clinic’s continuous quality improvement and advisory services, plus education and training.
Radiochirurgia Zagreb will send two clinical leaders to Cleveland Clinic in September for the Global Physician Leadership Immersion Program and will observe firsthand Cleveland Clinic’s clinical best practices.

Founded in 2016, Radiochirurgia Zagreb has become Croatia's leading specialty hospital for early cancer diagnosis and treatment, using some of the most advanced technologies in the fight against cancer. Its healthcare professionals are dedicated to detecting cancer in its earliest stages, when treatments are most effective. Cutting-edge diagnostic tools play a key role in identifying malignancies early and monitoring disease progression. For years, Radiochirurgia Zagreb has partnered with Siemens Healthineers to implement advanced diagnostic methods, treatment planning, and post-treatment monitoring, as well as pioneering AI-driven solutions. Last year, it was named a Siemens Healthineers reference center—the only such center in Europe to integrate AI across all aspects of oncological care. Recently, the hospital introduced the Siemens Biograph Vision, one of the world’s most advanced diagnostic systems. It includes ultra HD PET MSCT Definition EDGE/DE MSCT, Fusion ultra HD PET 3T MR VIDA, and an intelligent molecular simulator for advanced radiosurgery and radiotherapy, enabling ultra-precise diagnostics and exceptional treatment monitoring.
At the core of the hospital’s technology are three state-of-the-art radiosurgical devices:
Varian Edge linear accelerator, AI-driven CyberKnife S7, primarily for head, thorax, and abdomen cancers, Varian Ethos, combining diagnostics and adaptive treatment using artificial intelligence. The hospital views these tools not just as radiotherapy devices but as surgical instruments, often replacing traditional invasive methods.
This year, Siemens Healthineers selected Radiochirurgia Zagreb as the first global clinical site to test the groundbreaking photon-counting CT, Naeotom Alpha, for oncological diagnostics and treatment. Radiochirurgia Zagreb takes pride in its innovative approach to cancer treatment, regularly performing advanced procedures such as hybrid surgical techniques and radiosurgery under general anesthesia. Today, the hospital employs 90 medical professionals, many of whom are leaders in their fields. It prides itself on exceptional outcomes, especially for locally advanced pancreatic cancer. In the past five years, the hospital treated 340 such patients, including 120 with inoperable cases, achieving a 50% survival rate beyond two years and 13% beyond four years—the longest reported globally for this cancer type.
