LONDON: Cleveland Clinic London has launched a specialist device-aided therapies service for people living with Parkinson’s disease, dystonia and tremor. The new service brings advanced treatments and specialist expertise together in one coordinated programme designed to help patients access more personalised care sooner.

The multidisciplinary service combines deep brain stimulation (DBS), infusion-based treatments and specialist nursing support for patients with complex movement disorders. It brings together expertise across neurology, neurosurgery and device programming to support personalised treatment planning and ongoing care.

The programme is led by internationally recognised experts Professor Francesca Morgante, Consultant Neurologist, and Professor Erlick Pereira, Consultant Neurosurgeon, with support from a dedicated nurse specialist who helps guide patients through treatment, follow-up and ongoing care.

DBS is an established therapy that uses implanted electrodes to help manage movement disorder symptoms and is often described as working like a pacemaker for the brain. The service is also offering infusion-based therapies, which use pump-based systems to deliver medication continuously.

Professor Pereira leads the surgical component of DBS treatment, while Professor Morgante oversees device programming, using advanced imaging and neurophysiology to tailor care for each patient.

“Too many patients are referred for advanced therapies late—or not at all,” said Professor Morgante. “By bringing these treatments together, we can help people access the right option sooner and tailor care to their needs.”

Dr. Paul Jarman, Chair of the Department of Neurology at Cleveland Clinic London, said, “This service reflects our commitment to advancing care and improving access to innovative treatments for people with complex neurological conditions.”

Professor Pereira added, “Successful DBS outcomes depend on careful patient selection, advanced technology and close collaboration between neurology and neurosurgery teams. This programme brings those elements together in a coordinated approach focused on delivering the best possible outcomes for patients.”

Demand for specialist neurological care is rising as more people seek advanced treatment from integrated teams. By connecting expertise across neurology, neurosurgery, specialist nursing and rehabilitation, Cleveland Clinic London aims to provide seamless access to evidence-based therapies for patients in the UK and internationally.

Services will be delivered at Cleveland Clinic London’s Portland Place Outpatient Centre, where consultations and device programming take place, and at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital, where infusion therapies and surgical procedures are performed. The programme is now accepting patient referrals.

The launch builds on Cleveland Clinic London’s growing neuroscience services and its commitment to giving patients access to specialist expertise, advanced technologies and coordinated multidisciplinary care.
