U.S. News & World Report Ranks Cleveland Clinic the No. 2 Hospital in United States and No. 1 Hospital for Heart Care

Cleveland Clinic again has been ranked the No. 2 hospital in the United States and the No. 1 hospital for heart care in U.S. News & World Report’s 2021-22 Best Hospitals rankings. Cleveland Clinic Florida’s Weston Hospital has once again earned the top spot as the No. 1 hospital in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area, according to the newly released annual rankings.

This is the 27th consecutive year that Cleveland Clinic has earned the No. 1 ranking in Cardiology & Heart Surgery and the 23rd year in a row that it has earned a Top 5 overall ranking. It is the fourth consecutive year Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital has earned the top ranking and it is the only hospital in South Florida to be ranked #1 for four years for the region.

In all, 11 Cleveland Clinic specialties were recognized with Top 10 rankings: Cardiology & Heart Surgery (1), Geriatrics (2), Rheumatology (2), Urology (2), Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (3), Gynecology (3), Cancer (5), Pulmonology & Lung Surgery (5), Neurology & Neurosurgery (7), Orthopedics (7), and Ophthalmology (10).

In addition to Cleveland Clinic’s main campus hospital, three other Cleveland Clinic hospitals earned national rankings from U.S. News:

• Cleveland Clinic Weston – No. 33 in Gastroenterology & GI Surgery

According to US. News, the annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in their 32nd year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for life-threatening conditions or for common elective procedures.

For the 2021-22 rankings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,750 medical centers nationwide in 15 specialties and 17 procedures and conditions.

To appear on the Honor Roll, hospitals had to post high scores across many of these areas of care. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing in one or more areas of care.

In most areas of care, the rankings are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival, discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.

Just 175 hospitals were ranked in at least one of the 15 specialty areas. And just 20 hospitals – including Cleveland Clinic – made the Honor Roll, a distinction awarded to hospitals that deliver the highest quality of care across a range of specialties, procedures and conditions.

In Florida, the survey ranks 67 hospitals in the local metropolitan area of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital ranked 5th of 349 hospitals in Florida, while Cleveland Clinic Martin Health tied for 25th and Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital tied for 31st.

Cleveland Clinic Weston, Cleveland Clinic Martin Health and Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital were all recognized for providing high quality specialty care.

The Weston Hospital’s Gastroenterology and GI Surgery Program received national recognition and ranked 33rd in the United States. In addition four specialties in Weston were ranked “high performing” including Geriatrics, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Pulmonology & Lung Surgery, and Urology.
