Edward Wengler, MD, and Craig Wengler, MD
Father and son team Edward Wengler, MD, and Craig Wengler, MD, are not only both breast surgeons — they also work together at Cleveland Clinic Martin Health. The two demonstrate the ultimate team, with more than 45 years of combined experience.
They love working alongside one another. They discuss cases and treatments, attend continuing education together and explore best practices.
Dr. Craig Wengler says, “We collaborate on a daily basis and quite literally share a desk.”
His father, Edward, has worked at Martin and Port St. Lucie since 1981 and brings a wealth of insight, knowledge and relationships with patients that span generations.
His son, Craig, focuses on research and closely follows the ever-evolving field of breast oncology. He joined Martin Health Systems in 2015 after a fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
They agree that working first for Martin Health Systems and now Cleveland Clinic has been an easy transition as both systems’ primary goal is to provide the best outcomes for their patients.
And it’s the patients who make their work together so rewarding, they say.
“We have such an appreciative and brave patient population and we love our work. Our talented team of nurses, office staff and physician assistants also make our days rewarding.”
If you ask them, what is the key to working together? They say it is communication, trust and respect.
They are the cornerstones of their practice and their relationship.
Dr. Craig Wengler says, “For the past seven years, I have been able to work, operate and learn alongside someone who I respect and trust both at work and at home. To be able to spend these years learning from dad, while also discovering new treatment options together, has been an incredible experience.”
