Stuart, Florida, July 30, 2024 – Cleveland Clinic Martin South's Emergency Department has been recognized with the prestigious 2024 Lantern Award from the Emergency Nurses Association. This award celebrates excellence in leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and research within emergency care settings.
The Lantern Award showcases Emergency Departments’ (ED) accomplishments in the areas of team communication and innovative approaches to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients. This award underscores commitment to prompt, efficient, and safe treatment that meets the highest standards of quality. Cleveland Clinic Martin South’s ED implemented a "pull to full" strategy, optimizing staffing to promptly attend to patient needs upon arrival.
"We are honored to receive this prestigious award, which reflects our team's hard work and passion for excellence in emergency care," said Laura Hrubes, MSN, RN, ED Nurse Manager. "Our team’s commitment to proactive communication and the immediate delivery of patient care ensures that every patient receives timely, safe, and compassionate care from the moment they arrive."
These efforts have significantly enhanced operational efficiency, leading to improved safety and quality metrics but also significantly improving patient experience. By immediately engaging with patients upon their arrival, the ED team reduces wait times, expedites assessments, and initiates treatment promptly. This proactive approach minimizes anxiety and uncertainty for patients and their families, fostering a sense of reassurance and confidence in the care provided.
In addition to operational excellence, the ED’s leadership team fosters a supportive and nurturing environment for its caregivers. Through regular one-on-one meetings, they prioritize understanding each team member's motivations, fostering personal connections, and enabling them to excel in their roles. Initiatives like caregiver celebrations, awards nominations, and active participation in committees and councils further promote a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
"A healthy work environment is crucial for delivering outstanding patient care," explained Laura Hrubes, MSN, RN, ED Nurse Manager. "By recognizing and empowering our caregivers, encouraging their input through committees, and promoting reporting of near misses to prevent safety events, we create a culture of learning and excellence that directly benefits our patients."
The Lantern Award is not just an accolade but a reflection of Cleveland Clinic’s mission to deliver exceptional healthcare experiences and outcomes. By embracing a culture of teamwork and professional development, the ED team remains committed to providing the highest standards of care for every patient they serve.
