Autism Eyes, an autism diagnostics and assessment company created by Cleveland Clinic Innovations with intellectual property (IP) licensed from Cleveland Clinic, has been acquired by the behavioral health-focused virtual reality company, Floreo, led by CEO, Vijay Ravindran. This news coincides with an announcement that Cleveland Clinic has made a strategic investment in Floreo. The technology was invented by former Cleveland Clinic clinical psychologist and autism researcher, Tom Frazier, II, PhD, and Eric Klingemier. A new exclusive license between Cleveland Clinic and Floreo has been entered to transfer the IP.

"The rising incidence of autism demands cutting-edge technology solutions to help individuals and their families, and Cleveland Clinic remains committed to driving innovations in autism treatment and services,” said Geoff Vince, PhD, Executive Director of Cleveland Clinic Innovations. “Floreo’s VR platform combined with the eye-tracking diagnostic capabilities of Autism Eyes will help build an integrated pathway tailored to each individual’s needs.”

Autism Eyes operates by having the individual undergoing assessment view a 7-minute video containing various stimuli. During this session, an external eye-tracking device captures the patient's eye movement data. Using its proprietary tracking algorithm, Autism Eyes generates an autism risk index (ARI) and severity index (ASI). The primary aim of this technology is to expedite the autism diagnosis and screening process.

Floreo uses a virtual reality platform to help neurodiverse individuals develop new skills. The platform allows therapists to provide customized lessons to meet clients’ needs. The technology can be used in therapy, educational, or family settings. We are thrilled that this acquisition will help bolster Floreo's autism services!
